Water Main Valve Breaks in Freezing Weather

A fellow Brooklyn resident had purchased a property in Bushwick and was planning on constructing a new building once the winter months had passed. Unfortunately the water main valves for the building were not insulated and could not survive the extreme cold over the previous weeks.

Early Wednesday morning Harris Water received a call about a broken water main valve flooding the street and a DEP 3 day notice that was issued to the property owner.

Harris now had to dispatch an emergency crew to evaluate the situation and determine what would be the best way to stop the water from flooding the street. Being that the broken water main valve was for a two inch pipe, the only option was to dig in the street and close the connection at the city main.

The on-site crew dug down and reached the city main within two hours, relieving the property owner of any additional fines or violations. At this point the existing water main valve was replaced with a new 2” ball valve and the roadway was closed in preparation for the final restoration.

The job is completed!
