Fix Sewer Repair Order at Minimal Cost NYC

When exploring the idea of replacing your broken sewer there are many details associated with the repair, there is more to consider than digging the roadway with a backhoe. If you are looking to repair a sewer at as little cost as possible, it is important to consider a few important factors before you begin.

  1. Try and determine exactly where the sewer is broken. In some cases you may be able to cut cost by avoiding a full sewer line replacement. In other cases, you may want o replace the entire sewer line at once to avoid multiple repairs over time.
  2. Ask your licensed plumber if there is time of day or week that the rates are more cost effective than others. For example, is it less costly to work during the week than the weekend? Will you get a better rate if you are working during the day and not in the night?
  3. As your plumber if one material is cheaper than the next. This is not one we would suggest compromising, it is our opinion that you get what you pay for. You may be able to save a few dollars on using Chinese pipe instead of American pipe, will the Chinese pipe last as long as the US pipe? It is our professional opinion to avoid compromising cost savings when it comes to material, unless you can obtain factual information supporting the quality.
  4. Try to avoid wasting time with an exploratory excavation. The plumber should perform as much investigative work prior to excavating which will assist in saving time and labor. Your plumber should obtain city records to assist in determining where you pipe is located. The city may not always have this information available however, it will help if you are able to locate where you pipe is connected to the city sewer.
  5. Perform a camera inspection of your sewer line. The video will give a clear picture on the condition of your pipe, as well as any breaks throughout the pipe. The camera should also be able to determine the exact footage on where you pipe is broken, which will assist the plumber in determining where to excavate for your repair.

It is important to speak with a licensed plumber who has experience working on sub surface water main and sewer repairs. Try to avoid hiring a general plumber who excavates as a side job, or will sub the work out to another contractor. Avoiding the middle man will save anywhere from 10%-20% on the total job cost!
