Sewer Drain Pipe Replacement Atlantic Av , Brooklyn

The current owners recently purchased the new building on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Georgia Avenue in Brooklyn. They had an idea that there was a problem with the sewer pipe but did not realize it would result in replacing the entire sewer line within the first month of occupancy. They were first told that the majority of the problem was inside, due to a corroded trap. They were quick to find out that this was not the case. Luckily for the new property owners, their neighbors have been in the water main and sewer industry for over 95 years and were quick to assist in resolving the problem.

The new sewer line installation began on the sidewalk after obtaining all required DEP and DOT permits. The existing sewer line was eight feet deep and had to be replaced from the foundation wall, out towards the street.

Digging on the sidewalk

After several hours of digging, the new pipe was installed and the installation team was now waiting for DEP to arrive before closing the sidewalk excavation.

The crew decided to begin

The crew decided to begin digging for the roadway installation which was supposed to take place the next day. Luckily they began digging ahead of schedule as they encountered utilities below the roadway that would not allow for digging with the backhoe.

The roadway installation process was now going to take several additional hours while the crew was hand digging down to the city sewer.

The crew worked late on the

The crew worked late on the first evening so they could stay on schedule to complete the final DEP inspection on the second day. On the second day they reached the city sewer by late afternoon and began preparing for the new sewer pipe install.

Working around utilities

The new sewer line was installed by early afternoon and had a fully functional sewer for the building to start using by 2pm.

New 6″ cast iron pipe

The building had a new 6″ extra heavy cast iron sewer line installed and inspected by DEP all within two days. The property had sign offs for the new sewer pipe later in the same week and were relieved to have completed the new sewer installation!
